The Somaliland Policy & Reconstruction Institute (SOPRI), in collaboration with the Californian Somaliland Community, will organize a major celebration event this year to celebrate Somaliland Sovereignty and Independence days.
26 June: Somaliland was the first ever Somali speaking territory to become Independent on June 26, 1960, and was immediately recognized by dozens of UN member nations.
18 May: Somaliland reasserted its independence on May 18, 1991 by withdrawing from its 1960 union with the former Italian colony of Somalia.
